 Old oil?
I found my 6r's maintenance log during my move. Now, I know I haven't eclipsed the mileage limit that I do for oil changes since I last changed the 6r's oil but, that being said, the last time I changed her oil was on July 1st 2008 at 5800 miles or so. Now I've got 6600 or so. Starts fine, runs great, oil is still sorta clear. Since it's been over a year, and it hasn't been sitting for periods longer than 4weeks at most at any one time during that, should I change oil and filter anyway? I rode her last saturday to the new house, and she ran perfect. I mean it's no R1 and all but still a hoot! just kidding guys!!!!

 Re: Old oil?
about the only thing that you might find is that when it sits for a while, a bit of condensation will accumulate. as well, there will be just the very slightest bit of it accumulated in the oil. once you start the motor, the oil temp comes up and the pump and all moving the oil puts the water in suspension in the oil. the latent heat distribution of the oil will evap the water off and it'll exit thru the case vent.
some people talk about seeing white shit or for in the oil window. thats what this is. no biggie.. now, ALOT of water is!! lol

 Re: Old oil?
I saw the white stuff once, at the first startup at a trackday once. I know that's all it is. but thanks for the tech description! Man, I wish I had a penny for everytime some noob posts (without searching mindyou) on the R1 forum about 'why does my bike tick when I start it up and then go away'! Seems they can have a finicky CCT too, and the longer oil drains down from the top end, the first few cycles of the camchain will clackity clack, then goes away. Mine, however, does not do this at all!

When warming her up the last time I rode it before going on vacation, the low rumble and volume vibrated my first bike ever's license plate that was hanging on a nail on the wall out and off. It's fuggin LOUD, especially in a garage where there are three walls bouncing the sound in.
